THE KINDLE APP FOR THE iPHONE

The hype over the Kindle is staggering.  I almost wanted to get one just to see what the hullabaloo was about.  But thanks to Amazon, the Kindle app is like having a Kindle on your iPhone, the best of both worlds!

Just tried it and love it so far.

More iPhone Apps worth Getting

CNet just published 5 apps that are quite nice.

Here’s one of my favorites

artiststouch

Artist’s Touch

For $4.99, Artist’s Touch turns your finger into a pastel crayon, pencil, charcoal, or eight other mediums for changing a simple snapshot on your iPhone into a work of art. Or an approximation thereof at least.

What’s key is that the app starts by doing a blueprint mapping of any photo you use. You then select your medium and one of six surfaces if you want and start stroking the screen. Finer brushes bring out finer detail so you can make things as abstract or realistic as you want.

Stanza App hooks up with Feedbooks

The iPhone and iPod Touch are both compatible with Feedbooks for downloading and reading.

iPhone apps of the week – From CNET

WordsWorth (99 cents) is a challenging and addictive word game in which you make as many words as you can before time runs out by connecting letters together. Once you make a word and hit submit, those letters are removed from the board and replaced with new ones. Like the boardgame Scrabble, each letter has a number value so making words using letters with higher number values is part of the challenge. To add to the tension, some tiles have different properties including a multiplier tile (green) and tiles that will explode (red) if you don’t finish a round in time. You also can shake your iPhone to get new letters if you can’t find any words, but there is a penalty. With excellent graphics, special letter tiles, and a haunting (though repetative) soundtrack, WordsWorth is a great game for anyone who likes word games.

Want it!  Need it!  When’s it Coming?!

Minikeyboard for the iphone!  No one knows when it is coming out but would love it!  Love it!  I don’t mind the keyboard feature on the phone but if I want to type a lot, it would be very cool to do it on the phone, then transfer it to a computer later.  Like taking notes in class.   Plllease release it sooooon!

iLUV It!

The iLuv iMM183 will not protect your iPhones from tornado damage, but it will greet you in the morning with a gentle rising volume feature.

iBird Explorer Backyard

If birds are visiting your backyard this winter, your iPhone or iPod touch can help you identify the species coming to your feeders. With iBird Explorer Backyard — a true multimedia field guide — you can hear bird songs, read behavior and identification notes, view range maps, and see both illustrations and color photos of birds

I may be a TechnoGeek but I know what I like.  I got the Iphone about a month ago and I can’t put it down.  It is sleek and has oh, so many apps, I am frothing over!

Here is a list of my top 5 apps for the IPhone:

No 5 – Backgrounds – Choose from 1000’s of backgrounds from flikr with categories such as landscapes, animals, fantasy and more!

No4 – IM+lite – Log into any instant messenger from your Iphone.  Supports Yahoo, AOL, MSN, Google Talk, Jabber, ICQ and MySpace.

No3 – Urbanspoon - “It knows where you are!”  From anywhere in the world, shake the phone and it gives you restaurants in your area by type and price.  Shaking now . . . Mr Wizard knew I was in Gwinnett, it choose Italian for a medium price . . . the verdict is Provino’s Italian restaurant, duh, it’s right up the street!  So very cool!

No2 – Isilo – Adds non compatible databases or files to your iphone.  It is a little tricky to set up using a FTP site but the results are great.  Using it to store a library database on my phone, the links from the library work and it can be viewed horizontally or vertically.

No1 – SHAZAM! – Seriously, this is the best thing since mp3’s.  The program can tag any song you hear and tell you the name, artist, album, where to get it on itunes and will show you the video on YouTube.  I’ve tagged several songs I liked and WHAMMO . . . I now know who sings them and where to get them.  Call it Super Cool, this app should come with a cape!
